Reiki

Reiki literally means “universal energy”.  It is a life force that works at the deepest level, by flowing through the hands of the practitioner and into the energetic field of the recipient.  There, it is taken wherever and however it is needed most, finding tension, blockages of energy and areas where dis-ease is held.  Our energy field holds all of our memories, and residue from negative experiences that happen to us is held here.  Over time, especially if we suffer repeated trauma, these areas become more blocked and heavy and often manifest later in a negative way, for instance anger, phobias, mental or physical health issues and addictions.  Reiki has the ability to reach these areas and encourages the energy to flow freely, gradually breaking down the blockages and easing tension and dis-ease, bringing us back to health.

These days Reiki is often offered in many places alongside conventional treatments, for example in hospitals, rehabilitation centres, GP surgeries and even prisons.  Several of my clients have told their GP’s about coming to me for treatment and have found the doctors very encouraging.

I generally work with the client lying down, however this isn’t necessary.  I am also able to work off the body, for people who do not like to be touched.  I rest my hands lightly on my client and allow the Reiki energy to flow through, using set hand positions beginning with the head, then working my way down the front and back of the body, but I also work intuitively, moving to wherever I feel needs my attention.  That way I never finish a treatment feeling that anything has been overlooked or ignored.

I always offer the chance of distant healing in between sessions if a client feels in need.  This is given free of charge.

Reiki can be given for practically any condition or ailment.  One area where I will not give it is when a cancer patient is receiving chemotherapy.  In this instance, I have found that gentle massage and crystal therapy work very well.  I will begin Reiki either once radiotherapy has begun or a short while after the last chemotherapy treatment, depending upon the regularity with which it was given.

There is no guarantee with any therapy that “it will work” and it is frequently true that in complementary therapy people often experience things they didn’t expect to.  But generally, people are pleasantly surprised.  The length of time it takes to see results depends entirely upon the client, including their personal circumstances and the origins of whatever issues are responding to treatment.

Clients’ safety and comfort are primary, and I always allow them to ask questions or mention things if they feel the need.  They can also ask to have the treatment stopped if they do not wish to carry on with it for any reason, however this is very rare and my clients usually leave feeling more relaxed and positive.

Reiki treatments are £50 for 1 hour and £70 for 90 minutes.
